The drive up NM 165 to Placitas
From central Albuquerque, the usual route to Placitas is Interstate 25 north to Bernalillo, then east on NM 165 as the road climbs toward the north end of the Sandia Mountains.
It is a community of homes spread over foothills and mesas, not a town with a grid, so neighbors can be a few minutes apart.
Subdivisions such as Placitas Homesteads, The Overlook and Ranchos de Placitas have large lots, some of them two acres or more, with views toward the Jemez Mountains. Las Placitas Presbyterian Church is one of the community's older landmarks.
East of the village, NM 165 climbs Las Huertas Canyon and turns to dirt on its way toward the crest. Most homes here are custom adobe and stucco houses.
